Warning & Fragile Labels

Warning and fragile labels are types of labels that are used to communicate important information about a package or shipment. Here is a brief overview of each type of label:

Warning labels: Warning labels are used to communicate important safety information about the contents of a package or shipment. These labels may include warnings about hazardous materials, electrical shock hazards, or other dangers associated with the contents of the package. Warning labels are often bright and highly visible, with bold lettering and a distinctive design to draw attention to the warning.

Fragile labels: Fragile labels are used to indicate that the contents of a package are delicate or easily damaged. These labels may include the word “fragile” in bold lettering, along with pictograms or other symbols to indicate that the contents of the package should be handled with care. Fragile labels are often used on packages containing glassware, electronics, or other fragile items.

Useful Information

What information is required on a Warning and Fragile Label?

Warning labels:

  • A clear warning statement that describes the hazard associated with the contents of the package (e.g. “Caution: Contains Hazardous Materials”)
  • Pictograms or symbols that provide additional information about the hazard (e.g. skull and crossbones for toxic substances)
  • Information about the nature of the hazard (e.g. “Corrosive” or “Flammable”)
  • Instructions for safe handling and storage of the contents of the package
  • Information about the manufacturer or distributor of the product

Fragile labels:

  • The word “Fragile” in bold, clear lettering
  • Pictograms or symbols that indicate that the contents of the package are delicate or easily damaged
  • Instructions for handling the package with care (e.g. “Handle with Care” or “This End Up”)
  • Information about the manufacturer or distributor of the product

In general, warning labels and fragile labels should be clear, concise, and easy to understand. The information on these labels should be visible and legible, even from a distance, to ensure that the package is handled safely and with care.

Labelling Materials for Warning and Fragile Products

The label materials used for warning and fragile labels depend on the specific application and the conditions in which the labels will be used. Here are some common label materials that are often used for warning and fragile labels:

Waterproof Plastic Labels

Waterproof polyester labels are the ideal choice for warning and fragile labels because they are highly durable and resistant to moisture, chemicals, and tearing. Warning labels need to be clearly visible and legible, and polyester labels offer a smooth and flat surface that allows for high-quality printing and readability. Additionally, polyester labels are tear-resistant and able to withstand harsh handling during transport and storage, making them a practical choice for labeling fragile products.

For extra water resistance, we recommend a gloss laminate over the top to ensure that the print is as protected as the label.

Semi-Gloss Paper Labels

Semi-gloss paper labels are an ideal choice for increasing visibility for warning and fragile labels because of their reflective properties and high contrast. Warning and fragile labels need to be clearly visible and legible, and the semi-gloss finish provides a smooth and slightly shiny surface that reflects light, making the label easier to read and the product more noticeable. Additionally, semi-gloss paper is a popular and cost-effective material that is widely available and easy to print on, making it a practical choice for labeling warning and fragile products. Semi-gloss paper labels can also be printed with a range of designs, colours, and fonts to meet the branding and regulatory requirements.

A gloss varnish and gloss laminate are excellent options for hand sanitizer labels due to their ability to provide an extra layer of protection and enhance the label’s visual appeal. The gloss varnish provides a high level of glossiness, creating a luxurious and shiny finish that adds to the product’s premium look. Similarly, a gloss laminate provides a high level of glossiness, but it is thicker and more durable than a gloss varnish, making it a suitable option for products that require more protection.

Recommended adhesives:

An ultra-permanent adhesive is useful for warning and fragile labels because it provides a strong and durable bond that can withstand harsh handling. Warning and fragile labels are critical for safety and protection, and it is essential that they remain in place and legible throughout the product’s lifespan. Ultra-permanent adhesives are designed to form a strong and permanent bond with the surface, ensuring that the label does not peel or fall off even under extreme conditions.

A freezer adhesive is useful for warning and fragile labels because it is designed to maintain its adhesive properties even in extremely low temperatures. Warning and fragile labels are critical for safety and protection, and it is essential that they remain in place and legible even when the product is stored in a freezer or other cold storage environment. Regular adhesives may not stick to the surface at such low temperatures, leading to the label peeling or falling off. Freezer adhesives, on the other hand, are formulated to withstand the cold and provide a strong and durable bond, ensuring that the label remains in place and legible throughout the product’s lifespan.
