Thermal Labels
Thermal labels use heat to create an image, rather than a standard inkjet or laser printer. We have a selection of thermal labels suitable for both direct thermal and thermal transfer printers. Simply select your size and material using our step-by-step calculator, and you will be able to get them custom printed or sent blank. Difference between Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer printers:
There are two types of Thermal label processes, depending on what printer you have. The first is Direct thermal printing, which uses heat sensitive paper with a thermochromic coating, that blackens when printed under the printhead. This process does not use any ribbon, ink or toner.
Direct Thermal Transfer Printers - These can only use Direct Thermal Transfer paper, which is something we have available for you. This is heat sensitive, and can be used during the direct thermal printing process. You can also have these printed on with your chosen custom designs, if you decide you do not want them to be blank.
The second process uses a thermal transfer printer, which is a digital method, where a material is applied to paper or another material by melting a coating using a ribbon, so that the ink is absorbed onto the label.
Thermal Transfer Printers - Thermal transfer printers can use almost all of our materials depending on what you need, so long as you are using the correct ribbon for its printing process. We can get your designs printed onto these labels for you, or instead, you can print on our labels using your own thermal printer printer.
